| Service Operation Database Administrator / Sr. Oracle DBA Desired Start Date: 11/23/2009 Duration: 6 Months Location: Alpharetta, GA Visa: US Citizen / GC Holder Travel is a must up to 50% of the time the contractor will need to be in Montreal, Canada Excellent Communication Skills a Must Someone who can train the fellow DBA's Job Description: Service Operation Database Administrator: - The database administrator will be responsible for the health, security, availability, and resilience of the Oracle platforms in the hosting center. Duties and Responsibilities: . Create practice and maintain standard installation and setup procedures for database servers specific to each version used in the hosting center. . Provide training and input to Quality and Deployment testing personnel to ensure consistency between production and pre-production environments. . Maintain and facilitate standard backup procedures, retention plans, and restore testing. . Test and implement updates and changes to the database platform, and monitor vendor alerts and updates related to fixes and patches relevant to the versions in production use. . Participate in incident resolution as an escalation point for database incidents. . Act as primary contact to the database vendor on behalf of the hosting team. . Train 24-hour NOC personnel in recognizing and resolving common incidents. . Document known errors or workarounds in the shared Knowledge Base. . Consult with software engineers to recommend best practices and tune software during the development cycle. . Maintain trending data and provide input to capacity plans based on performance and growth of the systems. . Recommend and maintain standards for monitoring and event management to be used in production databases. . Maintain standard procedural documentation related to all aspects of operating the database platforms. Skills / Attributes Required: . Computer Science degree or equivalent experience. . Proven Oracle Database Administration experience. . Strong history of managing multiple RDBMS in large environments. . Experience with redundancy and resiliency applied to create a high availability service. . Strong experience with clustering on multiple versions. . Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database. . Oracle Certification, preferably OCP. . Scripting languages and java programming experience. . Reporting, monitoring using SNMP experience is preferred. . Experience in 24-hour NOC environment including off-hours change windows and on-call support. . Experience with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, Solaris) . Experience applying redundancy and resiliency to create a high availability service. . Strong interpersonal skills. . Strong written and verbal communication skills. | |
